Feeling the Chill.....and victory at SKOOL

Hiya!!

Now that the Olympics is over in Blogville (wasn't it the best!) - things are grinding back to normal now.

Winter is being brutal here.... well as brutal as it gets here in South Australia anyway. We had a couple of cold fronts breeze through over the last couple of days - complete with big rain - and I've resorted to a lot of this:

Today - wrapped up in blue blankie.....

Last night - with Baa Lamb and mum's snuggie.

Because of the rains...... my parks and walking areas are nice and green..... refreshing on the paws

Me snuffling in the undergrowth.....

Dad dad has been letting me do more "off-leash" walking....

It's looking a little grey..... (but there is a sea view on the horizon here)...... I like it when the weeds grow higher in little clumps amongst the grasses - it's quality snuffling indeed!

Here we are arriving at my local oval.....

Zoomin' towards mum with the camera...... I'm just a blur!

And zooming back to dad dad who is hidin' behind a tree here...... don't ya love this off leash stuff??!!

The ducks are happy with the green grass and their nice and full pond (this pond can dry up completely during the warmer months)

I love my walks in winter..... I don't get so hot and puffed.....

Mum couldn't resist showing you this picture - she loves it - she was crouching in the grasses to get this angle of the hill - see how little dad dad looks!!?

The greatest news........ I've passed Grade 3 at skool (and ..... ahem..... guess who was doggie of the month??? ....... **pause to blow on my paw nails and rub on chest furs**..... )

Our Grade three requires the following:

All heel work: sit, stand, drop and all turns on loose lead
Recall: Off lead
Finish: On lead
1 minute Sit Stay: Off lead
2 minute Drop Stay: Off lead (I get bored during this)
Stand without moving for Exam: Instructor can walk up and stroke my back without me moving my legs. This is tough but I did it!

Grade Four is pretty serious and is generally done if you wish to go onto "trialling". Mum is not keen to do that because then she says "skool gets too serious" and she wanted me to learn the basics and just have social funs. So I'm not sure if we will persist with this yet. I'll miss the interaction with my fur friends the most if I stop.

We'll have to take it week by week.

Be good and sit nicely for your treats...... bye for now!

  5. Impressive achievements Rubie, all that schoolwork is well worthwhile if it means you get to run free and explore your neighbourhood.

  9. Good Day Rubie!!!
OMD it is hard to imagine cold weather right now as we are in the middle of what we call 'the dog days of summer'!! 90+ temp and humidity to match.
I love your park and I recognize the balance beam bench from the pictures you sent me for gymnastics!!

Congrats on your high school graduation certificate!!! Will you be moving on to get a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations? Hugs from your BFFF in the Southern USA

  10. You have a great walking area. And off leach is the BEST I agree. I am still trying to wrap my head around cold weather. I can't remember what it looks or feels like.
Congratulations on your school stuff. You are one smart pup. I did not get get through the 1st grade. Not my fault MOM pulled me from school. So I was home schooled.
    Blessings,

  13. Fantastic walk. It's not very green here. We have the clouds and now the cold winds....but, no rain so far.

Congratulations on all the stuff you can do at school. We could never do that!

  14. Goodness, Rubie, you certainly are a well edumicated puppy!

I did the Delta 1 and Delta 2 courses, but when it came to Canine Good Citizen ... well ... I didn't fail, of course! I just didn't pass the part where I had to let my human walk out of my sight without howling like a banshee being tortured. Apparently that bit's quite important, so I didn't get my certificate. But I did pass all the other bits - so I'm a Canine Reasonably Good Citizen!

  16. It has been pretty chilly and wet here in NSW too!

Looks like you've been doing well at school, I just had my first day last Tuesday, I was pretty anxious!

But if your can make it all the way through level 3, I'm sure I can do level 1!

  17. Lovely to see your off leash walks, that's what my Annie likes the most. Lots of rain in the UK but it's very warm here as it's summer!
    Congratulations on your awards :-)

  18. Howdy Rubie, great walk and yes its been bloomin cold. Congratulations on Dog School. You have achieved heaps. We are about the same as you but are now in Grade 5 (just started). Grade 5 is sort of getting ready for trials and our mum and dad have to work harder on their handling and positioning and stuffs. Our new teacher is funny and we love it. Its not too serious or anything and so mum says we will keep going for now. We reckon you should too!! Hope your weekend is great. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  23. Your world looks so green. My world is all dried up brown with the heat I have had this summer. You are so intelligent with that diploma.

  24. Oh so sweet, funny your winter pics look like our UK summer pics, it's chilly here today and it's August! Sorry we haven't been around, as you know we've been in sunny France (thank goodness, sun shine) with limited internet, just about managed to update the blog but not read much of anything else, looooaads now to catch up on :)

  25. Hi Rubie, Congratulations on passing 3rd Grade, you must have been a very good student, well done on completing all your training! I don't like things to be too serious either but many give Grade 4 a chance so you can play with your friends and if they think its too hard too you can all arrange to meet and play in a park or something instead! I love seeing your walk, it looks like you have fun, I don't like it in the hot summer its too hot but we haven't had much of a summer here! Is it spring with you now because its Autumn here? I love walking in the Autumn because its cool on my paws just like you! You look so snuggly trying to keep warm! I love to cuddle up on cold nights! Love, Licks and Hugs from your Furiend Frank xxxxxxxxx
