PKW Hollingday (Port Vincent) Pawt 4 - "Road Trip!"

Morning tickles and snuggles with dad dad in the PKW. He tells me that today - uncie K and auntie B are coming in our car - we are going on a ROAD TRIP!

Driving out of our spot - we will be back later caravan park!

Mum wanted to go further down the York Peninsula and check out a coastal homestead that allows peeps to camp along the coast. Uncie K wanted to see it too so he can assess if it's good for fishing.

First stop for coffee was a little town called "Yorktown" and this is where we stopped - here I am checking the mural and looking at the sheeps and birdies.

We have reached the Homestead that is just out of Marion Bay - and we walked round to see the coastal campsites.

The first site contained a "Pod" - which is like a fully self contained box for peeps. This one overlooked:

This beach - but it was a steep winding path down the cliff to get to the beach. I was keen to go - but the peeps - not so much!

The next set of bush camps had this board walk down to the beach. We went down to check it out.

This is the beach - supposed to be good fishing here!

This is the track down from other campsites ... also really steep but very pretty.

This is looking to the left - we liked the look of this big rock pool!

The peeps liked the camp sites but the tracks down to the beach were too long and steep for good access or fishing. So they decided this homestead was not going on our camping calendar.

Anywho - we started getting hungry so we went to Marion Bay for a hamburger overlooking the jetty. Mum didn't get a photo of that though. I got big tastes of hamburger!! YUM!

Back to Yorktown - we found a nice pawk to have some photos taken.

Hey look in this town the rocks can look like CLOWNS .....

Or PANDAS!!!!

Even though this SERPENT was much bigger than ME .... I was very brave and not skeered at all!!

Meet this nice doggie "Ruby". She has a great name don't you think!? This lady in black is a Doggie Behaviour Instructor and was helping Ruby with some stuff. In particular, Ruby has a "issue" with meeting new doggies nicely. So I helped. We got along great. I showed Ruby that if you sit nice and calm (and for a few minutes without jumping up) for the instructor - you get a chicken treat!!!!!!!!!!!.

See here we both are showing our sitting calm behaviour for Ruby's mum. After a few minutes - that worked with chicken rewards too!! Woo Hooo! Now don't forget that skill Ruby!!

We said our goodbyes and got back in the car. Back to our campsite at Port Vincent to join our PKW.

That was a great day touring ..... and I was very good in the car. I even crawled into uncie K's lap and went to sleep!! For a non lap-dawg that was amazing they said. Uncie K used to be a farmer with a big sheeps property .... and he had doggies help him with the sheeps and stuff. So I think he is a bit of a dawg-whisperer!! I like him. This is his leg I'm sitting near.

So I hope you enjoyed the sights of our day out. Next Pawt will be the final hollingday post and I'll show you round the town of Port Vincent and introduce you to some of the dawg furiends I made here.

See you soon!!

Family Room Agility Practice

As you guys know, I do "Puppy Agility" at Obedience Skool. Mum thinks that I could use a little sneaky practice "on the side". She has been giving me evil looks - then I know she's gettin' ideas. (!!)

I thought mum cleared a spot in the family room so we could play tennis balls! I was wrong!

A few months ago - mum set up jumps for me in the family room with brooms, mops, and cans etc. Mum didn't take any photos. Then she saw Wyatt's idea of using loo paper to make the jumps nice and even.

???????????????? What the?

OOhhhh..... I'm starting to see the point of all this.... interesting ma!

See how I'm following my mum's hand (very important in agility) ....that way I know what to do when.

Straight line jumping..... when mum says "over" I have to jump something.

Sorry about the blurry shot.....but no camera can capture me clear at full-speed!!!!

WHAT IS THIS NOW???????

Ohh, my mum is at the other end of this thing......

This is supposed to be the TUNNEL at agility, I was a little wary at first - then.....

I picked it up real good..... the command is "tunnel through" and I loved it - I even did a jump at the beginning and end of the tunnel.

Mum and I exhausted ourselves with this exercise, but I loved it and got lots of treats for doin' stuff right.

I bet she will let me do this again!!

Puppy Agility Training

As you guys know, I'm enrolled at Obedience Skool where the trainers attempt to train my mum into doing the right things with me. It's slow going.... but she's gettin' there!!

The GREAT thing about being enrolled at Obedience Skool is that we get to do "Puppy Agility". We have to be under 12 months of age for this bit. Today I want to show you the kinda stuff we get up to.

First things first..... we do two laps of our course to warm up our humans.....they get sore legs and stretched groins and so forth....... (rolling schnauzer eyes heavenwards)

These are the "cantalever jumps" - four little jumps in a cross pattern, we jump over each, then reverse direction and jump them again.....if I do it right....I get a food treat!

Here's my mate Jazper doin' it too - you can see all four of the jumps in this photo. We rock this.

This rampy thing is called the "scramble up" - we have to get up it (note ear positions) - and then go down it in a controlled manner, and do a "drop" at the bottom once we hit "terra firma".

I'm about to control myself - you are not supposed to jump off any of the down ramp.

And here is Jazper at the "peak" of the "scramble up".

We get to do each piece of equipment two or three times. Some doggies need this to get it right.... I just get to perfect my technique!

This is FUN - I get to run thru the tunnel - the official command is "tunnel through" - we race our humans to see who reaches the end first - we doggies ALWAYS win! Humans are so slow!!!

I loves this photo - It's an action shot of Bailey going for it - the tunnel that is..... and his mum tryin' hard to control/keep up with him..... see Bailey almost pullin' her over!! He's pretty strong!

This tunnel can be made to have a curve or bend in it.... that's fun too!

This exercise is called "jump training". We have to "heel" and "sit" by our mums and then we are told to "wait". They walk to the other side of the jump and we wait till we are called - I wait to hear "Okay...Over!" I'm really good at this one too.

This photo shows Jazper, me and Bailey..... all doin' the same task - teachin' our mums!

Here I am doin' the "walk on". Again we are supposed to be fairly controlled and on a loose lead...and not run but just walk in a controlled manner. Boy - it's tempting to run!

This is a mid-way action shot - the trainer is watching me closely, and mum is unable to catch up with me when I'm off-lead! (see her arm).......(sigh) She's so slow!

This is "tyre-up" - where we jump thru a tyre.... it's another action shot... I'm flyin'!!

This is called "table-up" - we run up to the table - jump on -  get told to "wait" and must then wait for a release word to move off - my word is "okay"! I'm very good at "wait" - see how I am watching mum closely for the command.

This is Bailey having a baby lie down while waiting for his release word! He's showing off again!

So I think that's most of the things we do at Agility Training. I can't show you a picture of us doin' "the weavers" coz my dad didn't get a picture of that. It's essentially sticks that we weave in and out of.... and they are bound by lots of yellow plastic so it's a kind of a tunnel. When we go into the next level, we won't have the plastic anymore.

I love Agility, and I love to catch up with my friends, Jazper and Bailey - my close buds. We have to work on the fitness of our mums though....there is a lot of puffing and weezin' goin' on!!
