Hollingday in the White Stuffs - SNOW - Pawt 4

OOOoooo the fun continues .... but be warned ... this will be my last post in the SNOWS ... maybe for FUREVER .... so drink it all in my furiends!!

This is me enjoying an "alpine breakfast" ...

And this is the peeps' "alpine breakfast". Lucky I got to do QA on their breakfasts .... coz my kibble looked a little PATHETIC in comparison!!

Mum says the breakfast sausages were "low-fat" ... so that means she can feel better about herself and how big her "rear end air bags" are gettin'.

Thankyou for askin' after my clumsy pawrents over their spills and thrills. Dad's injuries were much more dramatic that mum's - he HAD a big LUMP on his NOGGIN ... but they healed good. Mum says it's mainly their fault because she didn't insist upon really good snow footwear - thinking we would only be in the snows for such a short time ... but she NOW KNOWS it is vitally imPAWtant for peeps to fork out for appropriate footwear in icy conditions.

This is another sight I saw out my chalet window ... the neighbour lying with his PEEP early in the morning. As you can SEE - I was NOT the ONLY nosey parker !!!

On one of my walks .... I came across HARRY and his nice MUM. Harry is a seasoned snow professional ... hence no boots and no coat. His mum and dad bought a chalet up here in the village many years ago - when it was brand new - and they holiday up here a lot. They were very impressed with me keeping on my boots!!

In fact - in a few short days I was FAMOUS in this TOWN. Everyone knew about the "dawg with the pink boots". There were peeps stopping their cars and taking a closer look at my boot encrusted paws ... the CELEBRITY was makin' my HEAD SWELL a little!! BOL!

Lots of peeps kept sayin' that their dawgs rip em' off FAST ... but sometimes I KNOW when to be GOOD. I knew my furiends ... that unless I kept my boots on ... I would not be able to hollingday in the snows. That's the sort of peep my mum is. Just sayin'.

Here I am in -7 celcius (19.4F) and in the big cold winds. This walk before dinner was FRESH. Mum's hands were frozen solid she says, she didn't wear her gloves so she could use her camera instead. This is what I got to deal with furiends!!

More shots around our village.

Look away FRANKIE - there is an abstract thingy in the background that COULD be a snowfreak!

This village of Dinner Plain is where peeps can go to learn how to ski because there is a little snow hill and a mini ski lift:

There were peeps bringing their little peeps here to learn tricky stuffs with long things strapped/locked on their feets.

Back in our chalet - Mum wanted to show you how she dried our boots/shoes in between going outside. It was warm under those tiles my furiends .... nice to stand on with bare paws.

And I wanted to show you how I relaxed in between gettin' those boots strapped on me - in my blue bed with a buffalo ear!! Yea!!

This is the morning we left - just doin' our last walk round.

Mum and me both in RED with a last minute photo opportunity.

And this is just before we got in the car to leave. I met two RACING MALAMUTES ... they are competing in the Sled Dog races here too. Their nice peep told us that malamutes are bigger and heavier than huskies ... so they race against other malamutes only because they are slower (than huskies) in general. But from what I saw - these doggies really love what they do - all the peeps were sayin' that the dawgs get all fired up the closer they get to the race - they are so happy and excited!

We didn't get to see the actual racing though. We were hoping to see some practice runs ... but our timing was not great!

Before she forgets - mum wants to share with you her FAVOURITE photo of our trip. The photo is absolutely highlighted and saved by ME ... - don't ya reckon??? (**schnauzer winks**)

So back in the car we go (chains not required today) and we start our journey back to the top of Mount Hotham ...

Conditions very much PEA-SOUP up the top - not nice and sunny like where we were!! What a difference 10kms UP means!

At Hotham village, the peeps are still riding the chair lifts goin' to the tops to ski down!! Mum and dad dad were HAPPY they were in the CAR!!

The fogs were so thick ... we could not see the mountain view on the right hand side!!

Down we go now ... off the mountains.

**SEE  YA  LATER  SNOWS !!!!**

Almost at our next stop for 5 nights:

Beautiful BRIGHT!!

Here is a MAP for you furiends. It shows the route we took to get to Dinner Plain. (I agree it's a great NAME!) It was approximately 1000km (one way) to drive. That's about 621 miles.

Hope you JOIN me for PAWT 5 !!!

Outback Dawg........Flinders Ranges Pawt 3

OK - so the fun continues in the Aussie Outback.... hope you like my next instalment!

So here is a overall shot of our Base Camp..... the arrow is pointing to our PKW. Yes - this shot was taken at the top of a hill (before the "mountain incident") we were climbing in the searing sun. This is the day mum almost had to call for "chopper rescue" (!!).

OOOooo here is some "Bush Kibble" left by the Kangaroos..... my mate Sasha made great comments about Outback poop.... and yes I have to tell you Sasha the emus left BIG SPLATS behind and I was not allowed to get anywhere near em'!!

Here we go for a walk within our station.... it's supposed to be an easy one to a lookout.

This is the view at the lookout spot.

 The other direction.

Here is me restin' in the shadow of the peeps. Note how sparky mum still is and she had the energy to wave to you all too.

Because the walk to the lookout was pretty easy, the peeps decide to go "the long way back"..... little did they know the end of "the long way back" involved a hike up a mountain!! I've got a great shot of the mountain reserved for the final pawt of this Hollingday adventure.... wait till you see it!!

Half way up the mountain mum had to sit on a rock and rest.... I stayed with her to make sure she didn't have a heart attack while dad dad went on ahead and checked that the mountain was not one of a few mountains..... because my mum peep knew one was her limit.

I helped to pull mum up the mountain while tracking dad dad's shoes..... I felt like Bert on a search and rescue mission....sheeesh! Check out the colour of my legs and feets at the end of it all!

Luckily - we all made it back in one piece in the 38 degree (100.4F) heat.... and no chopper had to be alerted!

Then I had to suffer through a long combing session (in fact - whenever I left the PKW and patio I had to have a long combing session.... gggrrrrr!)

To get out handfuls of these burs !!!!! I hate burs - especially when they get stuck deep in ones paw pads!!

Our next adventure started in the air-conditioned car. ("yay!") See the emus in between the trees. They crossed straight in front of the car but dad dad had spotted them coming and slowed right down before we made any sleep on the side of the road!

We visited some lookouts - this one was a little windy.

Then we found this cool homestead ruin from yonkers and yonkers back in time.

The roof had gone flyin' off somewhere...

Now the house needs major fixin' up - maybe a "renovation rescue!"....BOL!

Without a roof one needs to find a little shade elsewhere!

Mum liked this stony bit between buildings

This is her tryin' to be all creative like.......

We had to cross the river bed .... lucky it was dry.... in fact it is dry most of the time out here.... buggered if I understand how the European settlers thought they could "farm" here (!?!)

Must have been hard because this homestead had it's own graveyard....... spooky no??

So stay tuned because I'm gonna post the final pawt of our Hollinday adventure in a couple of days for you.

Be good all!!

Enjoying my Environs

Hello everyone!

A few of you have let me know that I'm a lucky pup because there are so many pretty places to walk around my house. Let me tell you - that my arrival in this household has forced by pawrents to get and about to see them! Not to mention we are about 4 minutes drive to the beaches!

So today I want to show you another route through my suburb. Here we go:

Heading out the driveway and up the street.

We have reached the first park with the gazebo in the middle - we walk through this one.

About halfway through. Yes my dad dad is carryin' my precious poop-a-doop in that little black bag. He's handy isn't he?!?

This is the next park.

Then this is the next one.......

Next one - this one is a bit bigger.....

I did some zig-zagging and schnoofling through this one. Can you see some signs of Spring??

Mum giving you a close-up of "Spring evidence".

At the end of this one there are some pretty views of the Adelaide Hills foothills.

This is the next grass bit - there will be a bonus at the top of this one....

Hey! - a local pup - he is part Jack Russell and part Cattle Dog! We did a quick checkout and sniff....

Then we had a play while our pawrents chatted! His pawrents are Scottish and they asked if there was "a bit" of schnauzer in me! (*gasp*) Mum had to inform them I am purebred mini schnauzer - I just haven't had my furs cut over the colder months. So I look like a Wookie! They then told my pawrents that they used to have a standard schnauzer - and we were all impressed. (  note to self: I think the buzzy thing clippers will soon make an appearance :-(   )

Whew that was a fun interlude, but onwards to the next patch.

Second to last park - you seen this one before, it's the one with the duckies in the middle.

Me looking like a happy bunny!

Here is the final park - the one that is directly in front of my house....and I'm runnin' with dad dad.

There is a little duck pond here, and I'm gettin' my paws wet at the edge of it - dad dad has a tight hold on my lead. After mum posted this pic - she thinks she photographed a froggie by accident. There are heaps of froggie noises coming from this pond at night - but we have never seen one - until now! Check the water close to my right ear.... you may need to click on the pic to biggify......what do you think??? Is it a frog swimming??

I'm just pondering my park and checking that there are no peeps/pups on MY path.... I bark at them from my place if I see them!

Homewards bound..... I'm a bit gookky now - got too close to the waters edge!

And I resign myself to the fact that a b-a-t-h is about to happen.  :-0

So that is essentially walking in a circle around my house. The nice council left a "green belt" through the houses so as to present a nice park like walking area for us furbies and peeps. It's nice don't you think?

See ya nextime!
