COOKIE TIME: Chicken and Chia Cookies

Remember when mum ordered some cookie cutters from the USA through ebay? Well she FINALLY tried em' out....here we are sharing our secret:

Hmmmmmm......... Chicken and Chia cookies!

First you get your mum to steam some boneless chicken (in our case it's thighs) and allow to cool. In a food processor you munch them till real real fine.

Munched.

Then you help your mum with the clean up of any rogue bits of chicken left on the edge of the bench. I'm on my real tippy toes here!

Any leftover munched chicken can be frozen for more cookies at another time. We put about 1 1/4 cups of munched chicken into a big bowl.

Then mum munched 1/2 cup of bran till fairly munched.

Then she added 1/2 cup of wholemeal flour to the bowl.

The red things are dried Goji berries (this gave sweetness without direct sugar - but if you don't have gojis - you could use dried fruit of choice) and we munched these in the processor - they were about 1/3 cup. Then add a good heaped tablespoon of Chia seeds direct to the big bowl.

Mum grated a medium carrot and added it to the bowl. It almost came to a cup.

Mum then cracked in one egg ...... are you gettin' all this furends????

It was starting to smell good.

Mum made up a 50/50 solution of skim milk and water - and after combining the stuff in the bowl - found she only needed about half of it to make the mixture come together.

It is fairly sticky - so we ended up using more wholemeal flour and was generous with it on the bench. Spread out the dough and flatten it with your palms. Don't help here furends - fur will impede progress.

Pass your mum the cookie cutters you want. I pawed over the bone cutter.

Put little bones on lined trays and bake in oven at 180-190 degrees for about 35 min.

See - here they are baked and we are puttin' them on racks to cool. See - I pawed over my giant doggie paw cutter and she made me one to avoid an argument!

TASTE TEST TIME!!!! See - I know my "leave it" command!

Nom nom nom nom..........YUMMERS!!

Another one???????? Pawlease!!!!!!

She's such a pushover........... I gotta say........these get my stamp of approval! (Is that a cookie crumb on my nose??)

YUMMERS! - Welsh Cakes!!!!

We went to visit Grandpaw yesterday. Mum cooks dinner and sweets (and washes lots of dishes) and I play with my cousins, Scarlet and Zoe. We then wait for noms from the dinner table - because eating our dinners is NEVER enough for our schnauzer tummies!

Thanks to my dear mate George The Lad's Blog - mum saw a post from last year which gave us a Welsh Cake recipe. She is an adventurous cook, and likes to mix it up a bit, and she has never had or made a Welsh Cake before.

Cooking the first side in a dry heavy based pan.

Flipping them over - mum cracked a couple because she used a flat blade knife to turn them - she found an egg flip spatula worked better (the second batch were perfect)!

YAY!!!! They looked awesome......now we must wait for our tastes! Mum bought some Strawberry, Blueberry and Cranberry conserve for the occasion.

Waiting, waiting, waiting.........COME ON PEOPLE!!! We need to try George's cakes TOO!!

Here's me sayin' "my mum made these Scarlet, that means I get FIRST tastes!!!"

I'm watching nicely (saliva building) while Grandpaw tastes his share.

Uncie made us pause for the flashy box before we got to try our bits! He gave us all a bit of his share....he did get the most after all! There is no photo of us eating.....because it is a BLURR of chewing and swallowing very quickly - but yes George, we ALL tasted your Welsh Cakes - and they get FOUR PAWS UP from us!!!!

Mum wishes me to mention that she gave each of us schnauzers some of her share. Love my mum!

After dinner we adjourned to the lounge - and got back to playing chasey and bitey face. Don't my eyes look evil in this photo?!

What's all this excitement about???? Zoe and me were meeesmerized!

We found a black bug to harass - see Zoe's schnauzer shadow....

Scarlet got bored with the bug quickly....and waited for us to "get over it".

Mum taking a photo of Zoe's cute face.

This is the usual end to a play time with my cousins....... pooped....

Pooped.......

And pooped!

Our work here is done.

Feedback from humans re: Welsh Cakes - We found them to be light and yummy too, a different texture to a cake per se, but well worth the exercise......try them - but you need to be patient when cooking them - don't rush the dry frying! A little splash of milk was required to bring the dough together prior to the refrigeration. All in all - a great success! Thanks George and your humans!

Some shade please!

Scarlet, Zoe and I went to Grandpaw's place yesterday. It was another hot day - but not super hot. Mum took some beef ribs so we would have something yummers to nom nom on while relaxing on Grandpaw's nice lawn.

A fresh beef rib......yummers!

This time of the day there was only dappled shade to rely on, and the wind kept blowin' it this way and that!

Mum to the rescue! She threw a tarp on the washing line for us. We wondered what on earth she was doin' first...

Ahhh - sooo much better....solids shade..... now for more nomming!

We're lovin' these ribs!

Scarlet demonstrating how hot she was.... now coolin' off on Grandpaw's tiled floor.
